The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) is a federal law that regulates how consumer reporting agencies use and provide information about you. Enacted in 1970 and substantially amended in the late 1990s and again in 2003, the FCRA restricts who has access to consumer information and how that information can be used. The Work Number has adopted certain standards of FCRA as our best practice.
Generally, if permitted by agreement with your employer(s), The Work Number provides your employment information to organizations with whom The Work Number has established a business relationship who has, under FCRA, what is considered a “permissible purpose.” A permissible purpose includes: employment, insurance, consideration of an application for a loan or an offer of credit, and collection of a debt.
Under the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act, at your request, The Work Number will provide you with one free Employment Data Report every 12 months. You can request your Employment Data Report here or by calling 1-800-604-6570. Once your request is received, your Employment Data Report will be mailed to you within 15 days.
If you believe information in your Employment Data Report is inaccurate, you may contact The Work Number Client Service Center at 1-800-996-7566 to have your dispute investigated. Your information will be blocked from verifiers during the reinvestigation. Results of the reinvestigation will be provided within 30 days of receipt of a dispute.
