Obtaining and Using Salary Keys

What's a Salary Key? How do I get one?

A salary key is a six digit number and is one way to receive authorization to pull an income verification for an individual's record on The Work Number database. For security reasons, the salary key is designed for one time use only. If a key is not working, then it has most likely expired or it has been used once before, you would need a new salary key in this situation. If the applicant requires assistance in setting up the salary key, please instruct him/her to contact the Client Service Center at 1-800-367-2884. Representatives are available Monday Friday, 7am-8pm CST.

I am being asked for a Salary Key and I only want the employment history not income.

Some employers on The Work Number database require a salary key regardless of the type of verification you are requesting and even if you do not need to know the employee's income. This salary key requirement was put in place at the request of the employer for added security measures.

Please obtain a salary key from the employee in order to obtain the verification you are requesting. If the applicant requires assistance in setting up the salary key, please instruct them contact the Client Service Center at 1-800-367-2884. Representatives are available Monday Friday, 7am-8pm CST.
