For many government agencies and contractor agents who support them, it is valuable to know whether and where an individual is employed. However, government agencies and contractor agents who support them don’t always have a “permissible purpose” under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) to receive consumer reports containing this employment information.
Fortunately, section 608 of the FCRA allows consumer reporting agencies, like Equifax, to provide certain identifying information about an individual — including place of employment — to government agencies and their contractor agents, regardless of whether such entities have a permissible purpose under the FCRA.
This allows us to instantly provide this information through our 608 Verification of Employment (VOE) service by leveraging The Work Number® database, the largest repository of consolidated income and employment information including 82% of the Fortune 500 and the majority of the federal government civilian employers.
A 608 VOE report includes access to the following data elements about an individual, as available:
- Current address
- Former address(es)
- Current place(s) of employment
- Former place(s) of employment
